ANNUAL SMILES FOR SOPHIE FOREVER BIRTHDAY BASH AND DASH        

The Smiles For Sophie Forever 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk, held on July 4, 2008, was the maiden fundraising event for the foundation. The event is not only a race, but is a day of fun for all, with kids’ activities, food, drinks, music and games, but most importantly it is a birthday celebration for Sophie. Sophie was born on July 4, 2003, and since a traditional birthday celebration for Sophie is not possible, her parents, Emily and Marc, couldn’t think of a better way to spend each 4^th of July, than with an event like this.

The ideas for this inaugural fundraiser came just three months before the day of the event, and Emily and Marc thought they’d be lucky to see about 250 participants. But as their endless team of supporters and volunteers showed, their expectations were blown away! There were over 890 race registrants, approximately 450 kids who participated in the after-race activities, and over $50,000 were raised. It was certainly a wonderful way to celebrate Sophie’s first birthday in heaven. And with the few days of rain just prior to the 4^th, Sophie must have had her hand in the planning, as the weather was absolutely beautiful!

The event would not have been a success without all the hard work of the volunteers and all who participated. So, thank you to those who were there in 2008 and every year since that inaugural event. We hope to see you at the Smiles For Sophie Forever Birthday Bash and Dash! For those of you who haven’t been able to join us in years past, please consider making this event part of your 4^th of July activities by joining us this year and in the years to come. It is only with your continued support and dedication that the foundation’s mission of raising awareness, funds, and helping other families afflicted will be realized.

Happy Birthday Sweet Sophie Girl!!

ANNUAL MICHIGAN GOLF OUTING                                                                               

The first Atlas Valley Golf Outing in Grand Blanc, Michigan was held on August 16, 2007 and was before the creation of the Smiles For Sophie Forever foundation. During this time, Sophie was still undergoing various alternative treatments in an attempt to save her life, and all proceeds raised at this event helped to support Sophie’s care. Sophie’s grandpa, Bob Quayle, organized the outing at this country club where he is a member. The event was a huge success and many enjoyed their day of golf and evening of dinner and socializing with friends – all for a great cause.

In the years after, all proceeds went to Smiles For Sophie Forever. Not only does the outing help to raise awareness, but it raises additional funds to help achieve the foundation’s mission.
