Emily and Marc felt truly blessed for the love and support of so many family members, friends, and strangers as they did anything and everything they could to help Sophie fight her battle against a DIPG. From the time of diagnosis until Sophie's death, the heart-wrenching emotional strain was compounded by the financial burden that accompanied Sophie’s care and treatment. Marc and Emily realized how fortunate they were to have financial support which allowed them to do things for Sophie which they would not have otherwise been able to do. Consequently, providing financial assistance to families is one part of the Smiles For Sophie Forever mission.
As of April 2016, we have partnered with Jenna's Rainbow Foundation in awarding our family grants. Jenna's Rainbow Foundation is a non-profit organization named after Jenna Kamil, who also passed away from a brain stem tumor in 1999, at the age of seven. The rainbow and helping other families who have a child with brain cancer is also very near and dear to Jenna's Rainbow Foundation, which is why they reached out to us to create a partnership in fulfilling family grants. Per our partnership, Jenna's Rainbow Foundation will provide funds to cover half of our approved grants each month. To date, Jenna's Rainbow Foundation has extended SFSF's reach by giving $142,000 directly to families as part of the family grants program. We are blessed and honored to partner with Jenna's Rainbow Foundation as we know that together we can make a difference!
